Bullseye Buzz: Forget #FakeNews…How About Fake Reviews?
What are digital marketing agencies buzzing about? This week, we’re pretty much shocked into silence by three interesting developments: an attack of fake reviews, the discovery of something influencer marketing isn’t good at, and a big announcement from Google about responsive ads.
Move Over, #FakeNews…Hello, Fake Reviews
Let’s get proactive here: if your jaw isn’t already on the ground, get yourself situated. Search Engine Land is reporting that 3 million 4-star ratings were left for 257 businesses–causing a massive headache for Google, small businesses and marketers alike. The reviews had no text, just ratings. You know what they say…if you don’t have anything to say, don’t rate us at all.
Via Search Engine Land
We love influencer marketing. Our agency will (almost literally) jump at the opportunity to match-make the right influencer with the right brand. We think there’s no better way to establish authentic, personalized connections between a company and social media consumers. But, we do draw the line somewhere: at influencer marketing as a vehicle to boost SEO. And a new study by Kaizen reported in Mobile Marketer provides the data showing that while influencer and brand collaborations are great, it’s the least effective way to impact SEO. Fortunately, our agency has many other tools to accomplish that.
Google Beefs Up Responsive Ads
We have gone through the full spectrum of emotions this week. We were angry about the fake reviews, shouting amen to the report about influencers and SEO…but then experienced a moment of sheer glee when we saw the news from Search Engine Land that Google has rolled out a multitude of new features for responsive ads. Suggested headlines and descriptions and real-time increases in ad strength? Yassss, please.
