Facebook Hits the Bullseye with New Targeting Function
We are thrilled to share with you that Facebook is introducing a new targeting function specific to status updates for its users. Instead of creating a general status update that gets released to your entire audience, you can now tailor it to fit a specific group of people according to InsideFacebook. This will provide Facebook users the ability to create targeted messaging to a custom group of people based on their gender, age, interests and other demographics.
Facebook started implementing the change on Tuesday, July 31st, 2012. The feature is currently available to some pages and will be open to all Facebook pages that have at least 100 Likes, by mid-August 2012. The specific demographic criteria to choose from will include the following:
- Relationship status
The targeting will be easy to use through an icon in your status update box. It’s as simple as entering the content, selecting the targeting preference and add the post.
Targeted status updates offer a great deal of benefits to Facebook page users. Particularly for companies with a diverse audience who would like to customize their messaging to speak to specific groups with certain interests, gender or age criteria. For example, if your customer base includes both males ages 18-25, and females ages 45-60, you can use this feature to tailor your strategy differently for the two audiences. Although your target audience will become smaller, the targeted messaging will increase your engagement with fans. Increased engagement will generate Facebook likes, website traffic, leads and more.
